Creating and Tracking Deals

How to open a deal, attach it to the right records, and move it toward Won.

What a deal is

A sales opportunity with a title, monetary value, currency, target close date, and a status (open, won, or lost), sitting in one pipeline stage at a time and optionally linked to a contact and/or company.

Why deals are separate from contacts

A single contact or company can have several deals over time — a customer who bought once and comes back for a second, larger project. Tracking deals separately from contacts means your pipeline reflects live opportunities, not just your total contact list.

When to create one

As soon as an opportunity is real enough to be worth tracking — you don't need a signed brief, just a genuine chance of business. Creating it early means it shows up in your pipeline value and nothing gets forgotten.

How to create and manage a deal

  1. Go to Deals → New Deal.
  2. Give it a title, value, and optionally a close date.
  3. Link it to a contact and/or company.
  4. Drag it through pipeline stages as it progresses, or open the deal detail page to update it directly.
  5. Mark it Won once the business is confirmed — from there, you can create an invoice straight from the deal in Creating Your First Quote or Invoice.

Deal counts are limited per plan (Starter: 50, Growth: 100, Scale: unlimited).
