Organizing Contacts Under Companies

Why grouping people by the business they work for keeps B2B relationships coherent.

What a company record is

A company is the business a contact belongs to — name, domain, industry, phone, and address — that can have multiple contacts linked to it.

Why it's separate from contacts

Most B2B selling isn't to one person, it's to an organization with several people involved — a decision-maker, a day-to-day contact, a finance person for invoicing. Keeping the company as its own record means you see all of them together instead of duplicating the business's details on every person.

When to create a company

Any time you're dealing with more than one person from the same business, or when you know the business before you know a specific contact there (e.g. a referral says "reach out to XYZ Roofing" before you have a name).

How to use companies

  1. Go to Companies and click New Company.
  2. Add its name, domain, industry, phone, and address.
  3. When adding or editing a contact, link them to this company.
  4. Deals can also be attached directly to a company, useful when the specific point of contact isn't decided yet.
