Choosing a Quote/Invoice Template and Color
Three distinct layouts — Modern, Classic, Minimal — plus a per-document accent color override.
What it is
When creating a quote or invoice, you pick one of three layouts:
- Modern — left-aligned header, a tinted band behind the line-item table header. The default.
- Classic — centered logo and business name, a bordered line-item table. Reads as more formal/traditional.
- Minimal — no color fills at all beyond a single accent underline, thin hairline dividers, generous whitespace.
You can also override the accent color for that one document — it defaults to your brand color from Branding, but doesn't have to match it.
Why per-document instead of one fixed look
Different documents suit different tones — a minimal, no-frills quote for a repeat client versus a more formal classic-templated invoice for a first-time corporate client. Since the choice is made per document, you're not locked into one look for everything you ever send.
The PDF matches what you see
Whichever template and color you pick is what actually renders in both the public view page and the downloadable PDF — they're built from the exact same choice, so what you preview is what gets sent.
How to use it
- On New Document, pick a template from the three cards shown near the top of the form.
- Adjust the accent color if you don't want this document to use your default brand color.
- The choice is locked in when the document is created — there's currently no way to change a document's template after creating it (create a new one if you need a different look).
A live preview updates on the right as you fill in the form, so you can see roughly how the document will look before creating it — it's an approximation (exact tax settings, terms, and banking details come from your Invoice & Quote Settings and aren't recalculated live), not a pixel-perfect render.
Printing without wasting ink
The downloadable PDF (the "Download PDF" button) always renders on a plain white page — it was never dark, regardless of which template or color you pick. The one thing that is dark is the on-screen public view page itself, since it matches the app's dark theme. If a client prints that web page directly from their browser (Ctrl/Cmd+P) instead of downloading the PDF, the page automatically switches to a white background and black text for printing — you don't need to do anything for this, it's automatic.
